# Test and pause Shopify order limits before launch

> Check allowed, boundary, blocked and out-of-scope carts. Verify identity, checkout, messages and feature switches, then learn to pause and restore rules.

After configuring Order Limit, verify both sides of the purchase path: eligible customers can proceed and invalid carts are blocked. Repeat these checks whenever you change thresholds, scope or customer conditions.

## 1. Fix the test conditions

Record the rule, products, variants, signed-in state, tags, market and language. Start with a simple scope and change one rule at a time.

If isolating rules, record existing settings first. Temporarily use draft status only in a test environment or an appropriate maintenance arrangement, then restore the settings.

## 2. Confirm activation

| Check | Required result |
| - | - |
| Rule | Reopening shows **已启用**, correct scope and values |
| Category | Its quantity, price, weight or customer feature switch is on |
| Quantity validation | **购物车与结账校验** is enabled; table-based limits also need **开启产品数量限制** |

New quantity and customer rules use **创建并启用**, and edits use **保存并启用**. Price and weight rules use **保存并启用**. Resolve saving errors before testing.

## 3. Test allowed, boundary and blocked carts

| Example | Allowed | Boundary allowed | Blocked |
| - | - | - | - |
| Maximum 2 units | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| Minimum 6 per product | 7 | 6 | 5 at checkout |
| Minimum merchandise amount 100 | 120 | 100 | 99 |
| Maximum weight 20 kg | 19 kg | 20 kg | 22 kg |

For selected products or collections, also test a cart containing only unrelated products. That cart should be outside this scoped rule.

## 4. Test identity, variants and language

* **Identity**: test a guest, a signed-in tagged customer and a signed-in untagged customer.
* **Variants**: split one product across colors to check product totals and variant caps.
* **Stage**: test cart and checkout according to timing. Successful add-to-cart alone does not establish failure.
* **Language**: test your storefront and checkout languages, including variable substitution.
* **Amount**: add actual discounts and market currencies after the first simple test.
* **Cumulative purchases**: create the first order, wait for the record update and test the same account again. Refunds and cancellations do not restore quantity automatically.

## 5. Record a reproducible test

```text theme={null}
Rule name:
Product and variant:
Customer identity and tags:
Quantity / merchandise amount / weight:
Market and language:
Stage: cart / checkout
Expected: allowed / blocked
Actual:
Test time:
```

Keep the products, values and message visible in screenshots. Use test data and remove contact details, addresses and payment information.

## 6. Pause and restore

Edit a rule and select **草稿** under **保存后的状态**, then click **保存为草稿**. Reopen it to check status and retest. Restore with **已启用** and **保存并启用**, then repeat allowed and blocked cases.

Product and variant table rows use **限制状态**: choose **未开启** and click **保存**. Keep a rule rather than deleting it for a temporary pause.

## If results differ

Keep the same cart and change one condition at a time. Follow [troubleshooting](https://order-limit.xrtotech.com/en/troubleshooting/rules-not-working.md) and [rule priority](https://order-limit.xrtotech.com/en/settings/rule-priority.md). For help, use the bottom-right contact entry with your test record and redacted screenshots. Bold Chinese labels match the app UI.
