Cumulative purchase limits manage repeat purchases of a product. Understand how recorded history combines with the current cart before setting the threshold.

First purchase versus repeat purchase

A customer with no recorded purchase of a product is not capped by the cumulative threshold on their first purchase. Add a cart quantity rule to control the first order. Once history exists, each product is checked using recorded quantity plus current cart quantity. Exceeding the threshold blocks the purchase. Variants of one product count together; different products do not share one allowance.

Identity and record source

  • Customers must sign in to buy products covered by cumulative rules.
  • Newly created orders linked to a customer record non-subscription product quantities.
  • Orders from before the app was installed are not automatically imported.
  • Orders already recorded by the app before a rule was enabled may affect later checks. Activating a rule does not reset history.
  • Records update after order creation processing. Do not assume immediate synchronization between consecutive or concurrent checkouts.
Counting is based on order creation, not payment completion. The current implementation does not automatically reduce counts after refunds or cancellations, and has no daily or monthly reset.

Product scope

A cumulative rule supports at most 250 products. For All products, the shop’s total product count must also be within 250. Larger stores should choose Specific products within this limit. Collections are not supported. When changing the product selection, check existing purchase records as well.
  1. A cart quantity rule for the sample: individual calculation, maximum 1.
  2. A cumulative rule for the same sample: threshold 1.
Follow the repeat sample purchase test.
Identity is based on the customer account the store recognizes. This feature does not promise to identify the same person across different accounts.

Plan your test accounts

Do not reuse an account with sample history to test a first purchase. Record first purchases, repeats and different products separately. Refunds and cancellations do not restore test quantity automatically. Use a customer with no product history for a fresh first-purchase test and keep a test record.
