Quantity limits set a minimum, a maximum, or both. Edit a product or variant directly, or create rules for all products, selected products or collections.

Product versus variant

A product-level limit combines its variants. One small and two medium shirts of the same product count as 3 units. A variant-level limit checks that variant separately. If the medium variant has a maximum of 1, two mediums are blocked even if the product has remaining allowance. In Quantity limits by product, search for a product and edit its status, minimum and maximum. Expand variants to set their own thresholds. Confirm changes have saved, then test the storefront.

Individual versus combined

Minimums and timing

Leave the minimum blank or set it to 0 for no minimum. Fill at least one of the minimum or maximum fields. Quantity minimums are checked at checkout so customers can add items one at a time. Maximums follow the rule’s selected timing.
A minimum is not a purchase multiple. A minimum of 6 also permits 7 units. There is no quantity-step setting in the current rule editor.

When rules overlap

Individual quantity rules use the first matching rule in All rules. Product-level limits, variant limits, combined rules and cumulative rules have different combination behavior. Read rule priority. Try a 2-unit product cap or a 3-unit collection cap.

Set a color or size limit

For “product maximum 3, blue maximum 1,” follow product and variant setup. For one allowance across different products, use combined rules rather than identical product-row caps.
